Group One: Place/Space visited the site, and took a technical survey measuring the elevation, topography, doors, and footprint of the garage. During the meeting, the three members were very interested ways to create a flexible or modular space moving forward. For this coming week, they plan to revisit the site to complete the survey and create a digital rendering and begin site analysis.
Group Two: Focused on Large Systems started to research food systems within Pittsburgh. They found that food deserts—where closest grocery store is over one mile away and 20% of people in the region are below poverty standard—occur in Pittsburgh. Because of the topography older and disabled individuals can’t walk to grocery stores. There’s a lot of organizations trying to tackle this problem (Just Harvest, Kingly, Grow Pittsburgh, Great Pittsburgh Food Bank, Larmier Consensus Group). This week they plan to begin reaching out to some of these organizations to learn about their work.
Group Three: Began to plot out their questions and general approach for engaging the community. This week, they plan to visit the daycare and conduct interviews in the morning when the parents drop off their children.
